Grow Room Dehumidifier Capacity Calculator
Estimate daily dehumidification capacity from plant count, irrigation volume, runoff, and a safety margin.
Estimate grow room moisture load
Most water used by plants eventually reaches the grow-room air through transpiration or evaporation. This calculator estimates that daily moisture load from the amount applied, subtracts runoff or captured drainage, and adds a capacity margin.
Eight plants receiving 1.5 liters each use 12 liters per day. If 15% leaves as captured drainage, the estimated room load is 10.2 liters. A 25% margin raises the suggested capacity to about 12.8 liters, or 26.9 US pints per day.
Why a safety margin matters
Rated dehumidifier capacity is measured under specified temperature and humidity conditions. Real output may be lower in a cool room, while late-flower transpiration peaks and irrigation events create temporary spikes. A margin helps cover those differences, but an oversized unit that cycles poorly can also reduce control.
What the estimate does not include
Outside air, air conditioning condensate, humidifiers, open reservoirs, wet floors, and uncollected runoff can change the moisture balance. Sealed and vented rooms behave differently. Ventilation may remove some humidity, while incoming air can add moisture.
Practical sizing tips
- Use actual irrigation records when possible.
- Subtract only drainage that is removed from the room.
- Check capacity ratings at conditions close to your grow.
- Plan drainage and continuous condensate removal.
- Monitor peak humidity after lights-off and irrigation.
This educational estimate supports equipment planning. Validate final sizing with room measurements and manufacturer performance data.
