Irrigation Runtime Calculator
Calculate irrigation runtime from target volume per plant, emitter count, and emitter flow.
Convert irrigation volume into runtime
Enter the target volume for one plant, the number of emitters serving that plant, and flow per emitter. The calculator divides target volume by combined flow and converts the result to minutes.
Two emitters rated at 2 liters per hour provide 4 liters per hour. Delivering 1 liter therefore requires an estimated 15-minute event.
Use measured emitter flow
Rated output can differ from actual delivery because of pressure, elevation, tubing length, clogging, and component tolerance. Perform a timed catch test on several emitters and use the measured average.
Runtime is not a universal schedule
The correct volume and event frequency depend on substrate, container size, root density, dryback, climate, crop stage, and runoff strategy. Use this calculator only after selecting an appropriate target volume.
Operational checks
- Confirm every plant receives similar flow.
- Account for pump startup and line fill time.
- Clean filters and flush lines regularly.
- Verify runoff and root-zone response.
The result assumes stable flow throughout the event. Check actual delivered volume before relying on automated scheduling.
