Grow Room Humidifier Capacity Calculator
Estimate humidifier output needed to offset ventilation-related moisture loss at a target relative humidity.
Estimate a ventilation moisture load
This calculator estimates the water vapor needed to raise incoming air from the current relative humidity to a target at the entered temperature. It uses room volume and air changes per hour, then adds a capacity margin.
At 25°C, raising 100 cubic meters of air from 40% to 60% RH once per hour requires about 11 liters per day before margin. A 20% allowance raises the estimate to about 13.2 liters per day.
Important limitations
Plant transpiration, wet media, open water, condensation, dehumidification, and changing outdoor conditions can greatly alter the real moisture balance. A sealed room may need far less humidifier output than a highly ventilated room. The estimate assumes the entered conditions remain constant.
Use humidity equipment safely
Choose equipment designed for the water quality and space. Mineral-rich mist can leave deposits, while standing water and poorly cleaned reservoirs can support microbial growth. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning schedule and avoid directing mist at lights, electrical equipment, walls, or flowers.
Practical checks
- Use calibrated humidity sensors in representative locations.
- Measure actual ventilation when possible.
- Control equipment with an appropriate humidistat.
- Watch for condensation and surface moisture.
This is a planning estimate. Validate the final capacity under real operating conditions.
